Women’s lacrosse secures third conference victory over TWU

ATHENS, Tenn. (Mar. 17, 2021) – On Wednesday, the Truett McConnell University women's lacrosse team went face to face with Appalachian Athletic Conference competitor Tennessee Wesleyan University on the road. The Lady Bears gained momentum in the second half, ultimately clinching the win with a final score of 20-14. TMU increased to a record of 3-1, 3-1 AAC, while the Bulldogs declined to a record of 0-6, 0-4 AAC.

PLAY-BY-PLAY

Within the first 30 seconds of regulation, a free position shot from Carter Culverhouse put TMU on the board (1-0) but it was quickly followed by a goal from TWU to even the score (1-1). Both teams showed their grit by retaliating every opposing goal, with no determined leader until the 25th minute, when the Lady Bears broke away with a five-goal run that was extended into the second half. The run was sparked by a Hope Foster goal and followed by a Culverhouse free positon shot to make the score 12-10 at halftime, while a goal from Holly Foster and two more successful free positions from Culverhouse saw TMU's gain in speed (15-10).

The Lady Bears continued to put pressure on TWU's defense, capable of taking 18 shots, with 13 on goal. The Bulldogs added four more goals to their team score, but a resilient TMU earned five more goals of their own, securing their third conference win with a score of 20-14.
