No. 23 Lady Bears fall in overtime at Brewton-Parker

MOUNT VERNON, Ga. (Mar. 13, 2021) – The No. 24 Truett McConnell University women's soccer team scored in the final minute of regulation to send the game into overtime, but the Lady Bears ultimately came up short (3-2) at Brewton-Parker College on Saturday afternoon on the road. The loss put the Lady Bears at 12-2-1, 12-0-1 AAC on the season, while the Barons improved to 8-5-1.

PLAY-BY-PLAY

The Barons outshot the Lady Bears 8-2 for the first 30 minutes of the game until they found the back of the net following a corner kick (0-1). Although TMU outshot 3-1 the final 10 minutes before the half, TMU remained scoreless as the Barons held the 1-0 lead at halftime. Twenty minutes into the second half, Hannah Sutherland scored the tying goal with a header inside the 18 from the feet of Ashleigh Smitherman (1-1). The Barons, however, retaliated less than a minute later with another goal of their own (1-2).

Both teams took two shots on target for 20 minutes before Natalie Alamri tied it up once again with her fifth goal of the season, assisted by Sutherland, with 54 seconds remaining, which ultimately forced the game into overtime (2-2). Six scoreless minutes went by before Brewton-Parker secured the win by one in the first overtime period (2-3).

BY THE NUMBERS

Overall, TMU was outshot 18-11 and was individually led by Smitherman who took three shots, with two on goal. Freshman AK Navas followed with two shots, while Kayla Boggess, Lauren Bergevine, Annabel Kesinger, Basto, Hope Kenney and Alamri added one shot apiece. Addy Galason recorded a total of eight saves on the day.

The Lady Bears will host University of South Carolina Beaufort on Saturday, March 20, at 11:00 a.m., before hitting the road for Keiser University on Friday, March 26, for their regular season finale.
