LAURINBURG, N.C. (Feb. 18, 2021) – The Truett McConnell University men's volleyball team traveled to St. Andrews University for their first road competition of the season. The Bears fell to the Knights in three straight (25-6, 25-19, 25-16), which put them at 0-3, 0-3 MSC and the Knights at 2-4, 1-2 MSC.
SAU claimed all the momentum right off the bat opening up the game on a 5-0 run. A
Kyle Trammell kill ended the Knights' run but SAU eventually went on a 19-2 run to claim the first win of the day (6-25). TMU picked up the pace in the second set after another Trammell kill fueled an opening 3-0 run, but St. Andrews quickly got back out front and maintained the lead all the way to point 25, although the Bears rallied to get back within as little as five points (15-20).
The third set was the tightest battle of the day. Both teams were neck and neck with a tied score at 11-11, but once the Knights pulled ahead by a kill, it was only up from there as the Knights held the Bears to just five more points as they secured the Mid-South Conference sweep over TMU.
Trammell led the offense with five kills, while
Ethan Conners led defensively with five digs.
Jackson Adams had four digs, while
Wensky Saintilmond was credited eight assists and had three digs.
Kaleb Mitchell led with two blocks. Trammell also had three digs. Adams and Mitchell also added two kills apiece.
Up next, the Bears are back on the road for Bluefield College on Friday, Feb. 26, at 4:00 p.m.
