Women's basketball secures AAC victory in dominating fashion

CLEVELAND, Ga. (November 6, 2021) – On Saturday, the Truett McConnell University women's basketball team went face to face with Appalachian Athletic Conference foe, Columbia College, inside the Benjamin F. brady Arena. The Lady Bears bested Columbia throughout all four quarters, ultimately securing their first conference win with a score of 89-52. TMU improved to a record of 2-0, 1-0 AAC, while the Fighting Koalas fell to a record of 0-2, 0-1 AAC.

PLAY-BY-PLAY

The Lady Bears secured the lead from the start off a Re'Tavia Floyd shot at the three-point arc (3-0). TMU broke away with a double-digit lead after a jump shot by Camilla Callihan, followed by a Floyd shot in the paint (17-6). The end of the first quarter saw the Lady Bears up 21-9, with the momentum carried into quarter number two. A Sydnie Smith 3-pointer allowed TMU to reach a 14-point lead, and two good free throws from Quan Holton saw the Lady Bears up 41-27 at the half.

TMU did not let up in quarter three, continuing to outshoot the Koalas 26-12. The fourth and final quarter saw the Lady Bears unstoppable, reaching their highest lead of the game (89-50) after a Sydney Rumble good shot at the three-point arc, resulting in a final score of 89-52.

BY THE NUMBERS

TMU outshot Columbia at the three-point arc 45.5% - 11.1% and at the free throw line 56.5% - 42.9%.

Floyd led all scorers with 24 points, along with going 4-7 at the three-point arc and 4-4 at the free throw line. Quan Holton led with a double-double of 10 point and 10 rebounds, followed by Callihan who had 14 points and seven rebounds. Natalie Nixon recorded 13 points, while Smith had 10 points and eight assists. Rumble recorded six points, Kacie Williams recorded six points, Alysee Dobbs recorded four points and Jordyn Webster recorded two points.

The Lady Bears will travel to face Kentucky Christian University Thursday, November 11, with tipoff set for 5:30 p.m.
