CLEVELAND, Ga. (October 28, 2021) - The Truett McConnell University men's basketball team hosted Voorhees College on Thursday, inside the Benjamin F. Brady Arena, where the Bears clinched their season opener in a final second shootout (69-66). TMU starts the season out 0-1, while the Tigers are 0-1.

Both teams battled from the start, with the score almost even in points for the entire first half.
Enocka Franky gave the Bears their first lead with two free-throws and followed it with a shot in the paint. TMU extended the lead with a layup from
Brent Kelly and a three pointer from
KJ Riley. The Tigers made two late shots, leaving the Bears trailing 37-36 going into the second half.

In the second half, the Bears started with two points from
Cory Seitz to take back the lead. Both teams continued to fight, but the Bears in the 6th minute, the Tigers reached at most a ten point lead. TMU did not back down and in the final minute Kelly had the go ahead shot to put TMU up by two, followed by two free throws from Franky to extend the lead. The Tigers remained resilient, making the score 68-66, but a final free-throw from
CJ Brown ultimately secured the 69-66 victory.

LEADERS
Most notable, Franky led the way with a double-double of 17 points and 14 rebounds, while also going 5-6 at the free-throw line. Kelly followed close behind with a double-double of 16 points and 10 rebounds, along with seven assists.Â

Riley recorded 16 points and went 3-3 at the three point arc, followed by Seitz who had eight points and five rebounds.
EJ Smith had seven points, Brown had three points and
RJ Bryant had two points.
