Box Score COLUMBUS, Ga. (March 1, 2020) – The No. 14 Truett McConnell University softball team defeated Georgetown University 10-2 in five innings on Saturday to conclude their tournament play 4-1, which allowed them to win the NFCA Leadoff Classic. Although the University of Mobile also went 4-1 on the weekend, the Lady Bears edged the Rams out on run differential. The Lady Bears improved to 9-2 on the season.

Although the Tigers scored two runs in the top of the first (2-0), the Lady Bears answered with four of their own in the bottom half. Senior
Liz Bunton's two RBI single tied it up 2-2, but Bunton ran home on
Kathrine Kozlowski double to put the Lady Bears out front for good (3-2) and
Sabrina Pestana Aguiar's single through the hole at shortstop put TMU ahead by two (4-2). Despite a scoreless second inning, four more runs happened for the Lady Bears on a single, a fielder's choice and a two-RBI single by pinch hitter
Sarah Wills (8-2). TMU put the game out of reach in the fifth when
Alicia Price ran home on a misplayed grounder (9-2) and
Jaden Morrison ran home on a
Justine Kennington infield single.

Bunton had a perfect outing (2-for-2) with two RBI's and two runs. Pestana Aguiar followed with going 2-for-3 with a run and RBI, while Kozlowski, Kennginton, Price, Wills and Sarah Sullivan added a hit apiece.

Senior
Bethany Hyde earned her third win for the weekend, which earned her a spot on the All-Tournament team. Hyde threw a complete game of two hits, two runs, three walks and four strikeouts.

Up next, the Lady Bears are back on the road on Wednesday, March 4, at Talladega College at 2:00 p.m., before returning home on Friday, March 6, for their Appalachian Athletic Conference season opener against St. Andrews University.
