ALBANY, Ga. (Feb. 8, 2020) – The Truett McConnell University baseball team traveled to NCAA DII Albany State University for a weekend series on Friday and Saturday. The Bears fell 4-3 on Friday, and then lost 7-3 and 6-0 on Saturday, which put them at 3-5 on the season.
GAME ONE 3-4
After TMU left two on base, Albany State got off to a strong start scoring three earned runs off a single and a double in the bottom of the first (0-3). The Bears were unable to score again with two on base in the second and the Golden Rams added another run in the fifth (0-4). A defensive error by Albany's right fielder allowed TMU to score twice (2-4) but Connor Bearden's single to center field drove home Calob Rowland to put the Bears within one run in the top of the eigth (3-4), but neither team was capable of scoring the rest of the way.
Rowland led the offense going 2-for-3, while Mason McLendon and Bearden added a hit apiece. Sophomore Brooks Rosser made the start throwing 4.1 innings of four hits, four runs, three walks and six strikeouts. Senior Evan Bensch relieved Rosser throwing 3.2 innings of two hits, zero runs, zero walks and one strikeout.
GAME TWO 3-7
Albany State got out early again by three (0-3) in the bottom of the second and added another in the bottom of the third (0-4). Meyer's lead-off single to field sparked a big inning for the Bears in top of the third. Will Ingram's hit by pitch scored the Bears' first run (1-4), a defensive error by the pitcher allowed the second run (2-4), and Josh Johnston's walked allowed their third and final run (3-4). Nonetheless, the Golden Rams answered with three more in the bottom half (3-7) and the Bears were never capable of recovering.
Freshman Devyn Munroe went perfect at the plate (2-for-2), while J. Johnston, Meyer and Shane Smith added a hit apiece. Junior Craig Barton made the start throwing four innings of 10 hits, four earned runs, two walks and four shutouts. Senior Nick Hammonds and freshman Andrew Fry relieved Barton for the final two innings.
GAME THREE 0-6
After two scoreless innings, the Golden Rams singled to center field to get up on the scoreboard in the bottom of the third (0-1). Although both teams went head to head holding one another scoreless for the fourth and fifth innings, Albany State scored five more runs in the bottom of the sixth on five runs (0-6).
Rowland earned the one hit of TMU's. Junior Cason Brown made the start throwing five innings of four hits, one earned run and four shutouts.

The Bears are set to face No. 5 Georgia Gwinnett on Wednesday, Feb. 12, at 3:00 p.m., before returning home on Friday, Feb. 14 – Saturday, Feb. 15, to host Georgetown College.
