CLEVELAND, Ga. (Feb. 4, 2020) – The Truett McConnell University baseball team hosted Southern Wesleyan University for a midweek nonconference game at the TMU Baseball Complex on Tuesday afternoon. The Bears fell 6-4, which put them at 3-2 on the season while the Warriors improved to 3-1.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Warriors were capable of earning one run on one hit throughout the first inning to immediately claim the lead (0-1). However, SWU's biggest inning took place in the top of the third. A double deep down the left field line allowed two more runs (0-3) and a sacrifice fly to right-center drove in another (0-4). Sophomore Connor Bearden answered with a double of his own down the right field line in the bottom half of the third but was left on base.
Although the Warriors scored one more run in fourth (0-5), Bearden responded with a single to score pinch runner Shane Smith (1-5). Following a scoreless sixth and seventh, freshman Tanner Griffith sparked TMU's late rally in the top of the eighth with a walk and eventually scored the Bears' second run of the game on a wild pitch (2-5). Fellow freshman Julian Galassi reached based on a defensive wild throw, which sent home Calob Rowland and Brian Meyer (4-5) to put TMU within one run.
However, SWU homered over the right field fence in the top of the ninth (4-6) and the Warriors were capable of holding the Bears hitless and scoreless.
