CLEVELAND, Ga. (Feb. 18, 2020) – The Truett McConnell University women's lacrosse team hosted Brevard College on Tuesday afternoon for their home opener. The Lady Bears dominated the Tornados with a 17-6 win to improve to 1-1 on the season.
Although Brevard got up on the scoreboard first in the first six minutes of the game (0-1), freshman Sophie Beach answered with a goal to tie it up (1-1). One minute later, fellow freshman Carter Culverhouse, sophomore Hope Foster and junior Cameron Lee scored three more goals within 26 seconds of each other to put the Lady Bears ahead by three (4-1). Both of Culverhouse and Lee's goals were on free position shots. Brevard scored their second with 18:03 to go before halftime (4-2), but Lee scored two more and freshmen Breana Tedder and Beach added one apiece (8-2). Brevard was capable of scoring one more time before halftime (8-3), but Hope Foster found the back of the net three more times to give the Lady Bears an eight-goal cushion at halftime (11-3).
It only took three minutes into the second half for Culverhouse to score on a free position shot (12-3) and two more goals by the Lady Bears came to follow (14-3); TMU led by no less than double-digits the rest of the way. It was only up from there with TMU recording three more goals proving to ultimately put the game out of reach (17-6).
Overall, the Lady Bears outshot the Tornados 40-9, earned 28 ground balls in comparison to Brevard's 13 and tallied 16 draw controls in comparison to Brevard's eight.
Hope Foster led the way with 17 shots, 12 on goal, while Culverhouse followed with 10, all on target. Hope had a total of five goals and Carter scored four. Hope was also credited three assists, while Culverhouse and Beach were credited two. Sophomore Christian Roberts earned the win after earning three saves on the day.
Up next, TMU is set to host Montreat College on Saturday, Feb. 22, at 12:00 p.m., for their Appalachian Athletic Conference season opener.
