Lady Bears win AAC opener 18-4

CLEVELAND, Ga. (Feb. 22, 2020) – The Truett McConnell University women's lacrosse team hosted Montreat College on Saturday for their Appalachian Athletic Conference season opener. The Lady Bears defeated the Cavaliers 18-4 to improve to 2-1 on the season.

Holly Foster put TMU up on the scoreboard first five minutes into the game on a free position shot (1-0). Junior Alexis Carter followed up with an unassisted goal of her own three minutes later (2-0) but freshman Carter Culverhouse found the stick of Holly Foster to allow Foster to find the back of the net for the second time (3-0). Culverhouse, however, found the back of the net herself just two minutes later (4-0) before Holly Foster put the Lady Bears at a five-goal advantage on another free position shot (5-0).

Montreat answered with a goal of their own (5-1) but two more back-to-back free position goals by TMU put them ahead by six (7-1). The Cavs' Isabella Knight scored two straight (7-3) but the Foster twins continued to attack to give the Lady Bears a six-goal cushion at the half (9-3). In fact, the Cavs scored the first goal of the second half within the first three minutes (9-4) but that would be the last time as TMU scored nine more goals throughout the second half, which forced a running-clock for the final nine minutes of the game.

Holly Foster led the way with seven goals, two assists, and 15 shots, with 12 on goal, while Hope Foster followed with five goals, three assists and eight shots on goal. Culverhouse added three goals, two assists and five shots on goal. Culverhouse also won 13 draw controls and tallied seven ground balls, while the Fosters tallied four apiece. Sophomore Christian Roberts recorded a total of 12 saves on the day.

Up next, the Lady Bears are set to host Life University, who is receiving votes in the latest NAIA national top 25 poll, on Saturday, Feb. 29, at 1:00 p.m.
