CLEVELAND, Ga. (Feb. 1, 2020) – The Truett McConnell University women's basketball defeated Montreat College (68-60), who is tied for fifth in the Appalachian Athletic Conference standings. The Bears improved to 13-11, 8-9 AAC on Saturday afternoon inside the Benjamin F. Brady Arena, while the Cavs fell to 13-10, 10-9 AAC. Last time they met, the Lady Bears fell 66-58 on the road.
PLAY-BY-PLAY
Montreat came out hot to claim a lead as big as nine throughout the first five minutes of the game, however, the Lady Bears went on a 9-0 scoring run to tie it up 13-13 with two minutes to go before the second quarter. Nonetheless, Re'Tavia Floyd closed out the first quarter with a 3-pointer and two free throws to put TMU out front by three (18-15). The second quarter saw the Cavs gain a five-point lead just before the half (28-33).
TMU went on to lead by as much as seven points to outscore the Cavs 20-14 in the second quarter and the Lady Bears got out front by as much nine in the fourth. Although Montreat tied it up at 58-58 with 6:15 to go in the game, a pair of Sierra Kendall buckets in the paint and six straight free throws proved to be enough as TMU fastened the win (68-60).
LEADERS
Kendall led the way with a double-double of 23 points and 10 rebounds, while Floyd followed with 19 points and Aisya Davis scored 12. Quan Holton added nine rebounds and five assists, while Camilla Howell tallied four steals and four assists.
UP NEXT
TMU is on the road for another AAC matchup at St. Andrews University on Wednesday, Feb. 6, at 5:30 p.m., but will return home to the Benjamin F. Brady Arena on Saturday, Feb. 8, at 2:00 p.m., to host Union College.
