CLEVELAND, Ga. (Dec. 2, 2020)- The Truett McConnell University women's basketball team competed against Appalachian Athletic Conference competitor Columbia International University Wednesday night inside the Benjamin F. Brady Arena. The Lady Bears held the lead into the second quarter but the Rams combatted with shots of their own to tie the game at the half and clinch the lead for the remainder of the game, ultimately resulting in a final score of 81-68. CIU is not sitting at 4-4, 3-4 AAC, while TMU fell to 5-4, 2-4 AAC.
The Lady Bears fought hard in the first quarter able to secure the lead at the start from a Jessica Jackson 3-pointer (3-0). The Rams kept it even in points but a shot in the paint from Re'Tavia Floyd, followed by a Sierra Kendall 3-pointer with 30 seconds left, kept the Bears out in front to end the quarter (24-21). The second quarter saw both teams' neck and neck, resulting in a tied game at halftime (39-39).
The Rams forced TMU to work on defense in the third quarter as they ran away with the lead into the fourth (43-62). The Lady Bears showed their grit by outshooting CIU in quarter four (25-19), but unfortunately it wasn't enough, as the game was clinched by the Rams with a score of 68-81.
Kendall led TMU with a double-double of 22 points and 11 rebounds, including two blocks and one steal. Floyd followed with 20 points, including going 7 for 11 at the free throw line, along with four assists, three blocks and two steals. Jackson tallied 12 points and five rebounds, while junior Aisya Davis individually had eight points with two steals.
Up next, the Lady Bears will hit the road Saturday, Dec. 5, to face Montreat College in an AAC showdown, with a tipoff time of 2:00 p.m.
