Volleyball suffers sweep against Eagles

CLEVELAND, Ga. (Nov. 14, 2020) – Following a road sweep last night, the Truett McConnell University women's volleyball team hosted the reigning Appalachian Athletic Conference champions, Reinhardt University, on Saturday afternoon inside the TMU Volleyball/Wrestling Arena. The Lady Bears fell in three straight (13-25, 27-29, 16-25) to the Eagles, which put TMU at 13-5, 13-5 AAC on the season and the Eagles improved to 15-1, 15-1 AAC.

SET BY SET
Reinhardt pulled ahead by eight on a 6-0 scoring run in the first set and the Lady Bears were never capable of fully recovering. However, TMU picked up the pace in the second set. Although the Eagles possessed a lead as big as six, a Jordan Roberts and Abby Maxwell block tied up the game at 19-19. It was also a Roberts kill that kept Reinhardt from winning at 27 apiece but after 56 rallies, it was ultimately the Eagles to came out on top in extra points (27-29).

Although TMU battled, Reinhardt proved to put the match out of reach as they pushed to lead by as much as nine to eventually clinch their 13th sweep of the season.

LEADERS
Roberts led the offense with seven kills, while sophomore Ranavia Neal and junior Bethany Ross followed with six apiece. Maxwell was credited 21 assists, while freshman Madyson Dunn led the defense with 12 digs. Senior Hannah Conners tallied 12 digs.

UP NEXT
The Lady Bears will host Montreat College on Monday, Nov. 16, at 6:30 p.m., for their fall regular season finale.

In case you missed it, the AAC tournament has been postponed to the spring. The projected date is to be determined.
