CLEVELAND, Ga. (Oct. 6, 2020) – The Truett McConnell University women's volleyball team won their fourth straight match with an Appalachian Athletic Conference sweep over St. Andrews University on Tuesday evening (25-20, 25-21, 25-19). The Lady Bears improved to 5-2, 5-2 AAC on the season, while the Knights fell to 1-4, 1-4 AAC.
SET BY SET
St. Andrews opened up the first set strong with a 4-0 run but a Katie Williamson kill sparked a 4-0 run for TMU themselves, which put the Lady Bears out front for good. Two back to back kills, by Ranavia Neal and Williamson, eventually secured TMU's first win of the night (25-20). The second set was the tightest race of the night as both teams were neck and neck until a SAU attacking error allowed TMU to go on another 4-0 run (23-20), but it was a pair of Neal kills that gave TMU their second set win (25-21).
The third set was much like the rest of the night where TMU earned the lead for good on a strong 4-0 scoring run, and it was only up from there as the Lady Bears led by no less than three the rest of the way to fasten the AAC sweep.
LEADERS
Neal and freshman Sonya Silecky led the offense with 14 kills apiece, while Bethany Ross added nine and Williamson added seven. Silecky added 14 digs, which is her third double-double of the season. Senior Abby Maxwell recorded her sixth double-double leading with 39 assists and 15 digs. Senior Hannah Conners added 12 digs and was credited seven assists. Freshman Jordan Roberts also led with four blocks.
UP NEXT
Due to Friday's home game postponement against Reinhardt University, the Lady Bears are back on the road for two more AAC matches. First TMU will travel to Columbia College on Saturday, Oct. 10, at 1:00 p.m.
