Lady Bears run away with the win at Brenau

GAINESVILLE, Ga. (Jan. 28, 2020) – The Truett McConnell University women's basketball team traveled to Brenau University to face the Golden Tigers for the second time this season. However, it was the Lady Bears who came out on top this time around in an Appalachian Athletic Conference showdown on Tuesday evening. TMU defeated Brenau 63-55 to improve to 11-10, 7-9 AAC on the year, while the Golden Tigers fell to 8-12, 2-7 AAC.

PLAY-BY-PLAY

The Lady Bears fell behind by 10 after Brenau closed out the first quarter with a 12-2 scoring run (11-21). However, TMU answered with a 24-14 second quarter to tie it up just before halftime (35-35). The third quarter saw the tightest race of the night with the Lady Bears leading by as much as seven (45-38) but the Golden Tigers brought it within one heading into the fourth (45-44).

TMU's 9-0 scoring run gave them the momentum necessary to push a lead as big as 11 with 1:49 to go in the game (60-49). Although the Golden Tigers drained a 3-pointer to get within five with 1:19 remaining, the Lady Bears did not allow them to score again the rest of the way.

LEADERS

Junior Sierra Kendall led all scorers with a double-double of 20 points and 11 rebounds, while sophomore Re'Tavia Floyd followed with 16 points and four steals. Fellow sophomore Quan Holton added 11 points, six rebounds and two steals. Camilla Howell was credited three assists.

UP NEXT

TMU will return home to the Benjamin F. Brady Arena on Saturday, Feb. 1, at 2:00 p.m., to also face AAC foe Montreat College for the second time this season.
