COLUMBIA, S.C. (Jan. 2, 2020) – The Truett McConnell University women's basketball team traveled to Columbia International University on Thursday afternoon to pick up their first Appalachian Athletic Conference win (50-46) of 2020. TMU, in fact, defeated the Rams for the second time this season and improved to 8-4, 4-4 AAC.

The visiting Lady Bears started out slow as the Rams outscored by 13 (6-19) in the first quarter. However, TMU picked up the pace to outscore by six and trail by seven at the half (18-25). It didn't take long for the Lady Bears to claim the lead after three straight buckets in the paint to open the third quarter on a 6-0 scoring run.

Camilla Howell's fast break layup ultimately gave TMU their first lead of the game with 4:48 to go in the third (30-29). Furthermore, Howell drained two straight 3-pointers in the closing minute but two free throws allowed CIU to maintain a one-point lead heading into the fourth (39-40). TMU, in fact, scored an impressive 21 points throughout the third quarter, while the Rams scored 15.

Howell scored within the first 15 seconds of the fourth quarter to put TMU out front for good (41-40), which sparked a 8-0 scoring run for the Lady Bears. The seven-point lead proved to give TMU enough of a cushion to clinch their second win over CIU. Â

LEADERS
Howell led the way with 14 points, while
Sierra Kendall and
Re'Tavia Floyd followed with 11 points apiece.
Quan Holton had six rebounds, Floyd added five steals and
Aisya Davis was credited three assists.
