Volleyball clinches first AAC sweep

COLUMBIA, S.C. (Sept. 7, 2019) – After falling just short in a five-set battle in their Appalachian Athletic Conference season opener Thursday night, the Truett McConnell women's volleyball team bounced back with their first AAC sweep at Columbia College on Saturday afternoon (25-18, 25-16, 25-13). The Lady Bears are now 3-6, 1-1 AAC on the year with three of TMU's losses being decided in five sets.

SET BY SET

Both teams exchanged the lead in the first game until the Lady Bears went on a 6-0 run to get out front for good. TMU's final three points were earned on two Bethany Ross kills and a Ranavia Neal kill (25-18). TMU recorded 13 kills in comparison to the Fighting Koalas' nine. Game two saw another strong performance by the Lady Bears but game three was the most dominating showing of the day. TMU pushed to lead by double digits and only allowed Columbia 13 points. In addition, Columbia had 10 attacking errors while the Lady Bears only had two of their own, which ultimately proved to be the difference.

TMU recorded seven total service aces, led by Ross with four, while the Fighting Koalas had a total of two. The Lady Bears also tallied six blocks while Columbia had one.
