CLEVELAND, Ga. (Sept. 5, 2019) – The Truett McConnell University women's volleyball team hosted Columbia International University for their home and Appalachian Athletic Conference season opener on Thursday night. The Lady Bears battled back from a 2-set deficit to push the game to five games but the Rams came out on top with the win (18-25, 24-26, 25-19, 25-7, 10-15).
PLAY-BY-PLAY
After dropping games one and two, TMU rallied in the third. Game two, however, was a tight race but TMU fell short in extra points. After 4-4 in game three, the Lady Bears led the rest of the way. A mid-game 5-0 run gave the Lady Bears the cushion and momentum they needed to finish the set. Nonetheless, TMU's momentum carried over into the Lady Bears' most dominating set of the whole season. TMU only allowed the Rams to get seven points (25-7). Most notable, the Lady Bears went on a 14-1 to win; Harris Anne Walker served 13 in a row, which included four aces.
The Lady Bears were the first to eight (8-6) in game five, however, CIU got ahead and claimed the match win on a 5-0 run. Eight errors on TMU's end, in comparison to CIU's two, ultimately proved to be the difference in the final set.
