Lady Bears take one set from Point, fall in four

CLEVELAND, Ga. (Sept. 24, 2019) – The Truett McConnell University women's volleyball team hosted Appalachian Athletic Conference foe Point University on Tuesday evening inside the TMU Bear Cave. The Lady Bears, who were without two routine starters due to illness, took one game from the Skyhawks but ultimately fell in a four-set battle (21-25, 17-25, 26-24, 16-25).

SET BY SET

Game one saw Point begin with a 7-1 run to lead by six and went on to go on a 5-0 run when it mattered most (17-24). Two kills by senior Madison Curtis and freshman Audrey Henderson led the way for the Lady Bears to rally and reach point 21, but it proved not enough as the Skyhawks won on a kill themselves (21-25).

After another Henderson kill tied it up in game two (12-12), the Skyhawks pulled away to reach 20 and the Lady Bears were never capable of fully recovering (17-25). The third set, however, saw TMU out front. Following a strong 6-1 start, it was neck and neck in the end. The Skyhawks tied it back up 24 apiece but Tia Westbrook and Curtis' kills refused the sweep (26-24).

Point proved to carry over momentum into the second game with a 1-9 start. The Lady Bears dug themselves a hole too deep, which ultimately proved to be the difference (16-25).

LEADERS

Curtis led offensively with 12 kills while Westbrook, in her debut as Lady Bears, followed with nine. Curtis also led recording a total of seven blocks on the night. Both Harris Anne Walker and Henderson followed with eight kills apiece. Ranavia Neal had five. In addition, Henderson led defensively with 14 digs, Anna Mumpower added 13 and Taylor Roland followed with 10. Junior Abby Maxwell was credited 43 assists, nine digs and four kills.
