Volleyball splits home tri-match

CLEVELAND, Ga. (Sept. 21, 2019) – The Truett McConnell University women's volleyball hosted Appalachian Athletic Conference foe Allen University and Bob Jones University on Saturday inside the TMU Bear Cave. The Lady Bears started out strong picking up their fourth AAC sweep (25-7, 25-22, 25-22) but fell to the Bruins in straight sets (20-25, 26-28, 21-25), which moved TMU's overall season record to 6-10, 4-3 AAC.

ALLEN (3-0)

The Lady Bears started out strong immediately going on a 6-0 and eventually a dominating 10-0 run, which proved to put the game out of reach (20-4). Game two saw a tighter contest as the set was tied twice but the Yellow Jackets were never capable of getting in front of the Lady Bears. A powerful Harris Anne Walker kill sealed set two (25-22).

Even though the Lady Bears outshined Allen with 13 kills in game two, TMU went on to dominate even more recording 19 kills comparison to Allen's three in the third set. The Yellow Jackets were capable of gaining a minor lead in game three, however, it proved not enough as the Lady Bears rallied to win the match on a 4-0 run.

LEADERS

TMU's middle blockers led the way at the net. Junior Madison Curtis tied her season high of 13 kills while Walker followed closely with 11 kills. Sophomore Bethany Ross added seven and freshman Ranavia Neal added six. Junior Abby Maxwell claimed another double-double with 40 assists and 11 digs while fellow junior Hannah Lee led with 18 digs. Abby Mumpower had 13 and Ross added 10.

BOB JONES (0-3)

TMU trailed the Bruins throughout the entire first set but did not trail by any more than six. Bob Jones eventually pulled away in the end but game two was the tightest one of the day. Both teams exchanged leads back and forth but most notable, the Lady Bears recorded a 4-0 run to put themselves in winning position (22-20). However, Bob Jones picked up the pace to win the set in extra points on a kill (26-28).

Game three saw a similar race with a tied game eight different times but the Bruins' late-set momentum proved to carry over as they secured the sweep on four straight points (21-25).

LEADERS

Maxwell recorded a second double-double on the day with 28 assists and 10 digs. Abby Mumpower led with 16 digs and Lee followed with 11. Curtis and Ross led the offense with nine kills apiece.
