CLEVELAND, Ga. (Sept. 21, 2019) – Senior Jasmin Lanuza scored the winning goal that recorded the Truett McConnell University women's soccer team third straight Appalachian Athletic Conference shutout on Saturday afternoon to remain perfect in the AAC at the TMU Soccer Complex. The Lady Bears, who are receiving votes in the latest NAIA national top 25, improved their season record to 6-1, 3-0 AAC.
The Lady Bears dominated possession throughout all of regulation. In fact, TMU did not allow the Cavaliers a single shot in the first half while shooting 14 shots of their own. Despite a scoreless first half, the Lady Bears went on to continue outshooting (11-3). The Lady Bears also did not allow Montreat one corner kick but earned 13 of their own.
Lanuza's goal came in the 77th minute (1-0) after TMU moved the ball efficiently to find Lanuza just outside the 18. The senior midfielder beat the first defender before unleashing a strong shot that found the back of the net just under the crossbar.
Individually, Jessica Lanier led the way with six shots, two on goal. Freshman Lauren Bergevine followed with four and Sydney Ziglar, Jennifer McCall and Lanuza all added three apiece. Sophomore Hope Foster recorded one save on the day.
Up next, the Lady Bears will be on the road for Milligan College on Wednesday, Sept. 25. Kickoff is set for 5:00 p.m.
