Men’s soccer falls in overtime vs. No. 25 TWU

CLEVELAND, Ga. (Sept. 17, 2019) – Senior Clancy Loudermilk put the Bears back into the game (1-1), but it proved not enough as the Truett McConnell University men's soccer team fell in overtime (2-1) to No. 25 Tennessee Wesleyan University Tuesday night in an Appalachian Athletic Conference showdown.

The Bears started off strong outshooting the Bulldogs in the first 45 minutes of play by five (7-2), but TMU was unable to finish at the net. In fact, neither team could score the first 60 minutes of the game. Tennessee Wesleyan scored in the 60th minute (1-0) but it only took five minutes for Loudermilk to match it (1-1). The Bulldogs got hot in the second half outshooting the Bears 10-2, but couldn't score again throughout the rest of regulation, which forced the game into overtime.

Nonetheless, the Bulldogs scored the golden goal seven minutes into the first overtime period on a free kick (2-1).

Individually, freshman Cody Carnes led with three shots and sophomore Luca Brugmann added two. Senior Evan Gaffney compiled a total of five saves on the night.

Up next, the Bears are set to host Montreat College on Saturday, Sept. 21, at 4:00 p.m., before getting back on the road on Wednesday, Sept. 25.
