GREENVILLE, S.C. (Sept. 10, 2019) – The Truett McConnell University men's soccer team picked up their first win of the season at Bob Jones University on Tuesday night. The Bears came out on top in the second overtime period when Javier Rodriguez found the back of the net on a penalty kick (2-1).
TMU's first goal came in the 83rd minute off the feet of Trevor Fick to put the Bears out front 1-0. Clancy Loudermilk was credited the assist. Two minutes later, however, the Bruins tied up the game (1-1) to send the game into overtime. Neither team could capitalize in the first overtime period but Rodriguez rose to the occasion three minutes into the final overtime period (2-1).
Overall, the Bears dominated possession outshooting Bob Jones 38-4 with 17 on goal, including nine shots in comparison to the Bruins' one in the 13 minutes of overtime. TMU held Bob Jones to three shots all the while shooting 29 throughout regulation. The Bears also earned 16 corner kicks in comparison to Bob Jones' three.
Individually, Rodriguez led with eight, four on goal, while Loudermilk followed with six, three on goal. Trevor Fick shot five, three on goal, and Jacopo Borgalli and Alvaro Lores added four apiece. Sophomore David Windmiller earned his first career win as a keeper.
Up next, TMU is set to host Life University on Thursday, Sept. 12, at 4:00 p.m., and will open up Appalachian Athletic Conference play on Saturday, Sept. 14, at 2:00 p.m., when they host St. Andrews University.
