No. 16 softball dominates third straight AAC sweep at Allen

COLUMBIA, S.C. (April 11, 2019) – The No. 16 Truett McConnell softball team dominated their third straight Appalachian Athletic Conference sweep at Allen University on Thursday (14-2, 6-1). The Lady Bears improved to 35-7, 20-2 AAC on the year keeping them first in the AAC.

GAME ONE (14-2)

The Lady Bears immediately put up two runs in the top of the first (2-0) and went on to record three hits and three runs in the second. Liz Bunton sparked the inning with a single to right field. Sara Sullivan's single to left field drove home Bunton and Kaitlynn Johnson (4-0) and Brie Levy's double to left field sent home Sullivan (5-0). Still holding Allen hitless and scoreless, Jaden Morrison scored Macey Dunaway to give the Lady Bears six run cushion (6-0).

The Yellow Jackets were capable of recording a run (6-1) but TMU put the game further out of reach in the top of the seventh. The Lady Bears recorded five hits and eight runs (14-1).

Junior Bethany Hyde earned her 12th win of the season after pitching a complete game allowing just three hits, walking one and striking out seven.

LEADERS

Levy went 3-for-5, with three RBI's and two runs, and Morrison went 2-for-4, with two RBI's. Freshman Briley Lawson went 2-for-5, with one RBI.

GAME TWO (6-1)

After a scoreless two innings, Sullivan crossed home plate on a stolen base (1-0) in the top of the third. Still holding the Yellow Jackets scoreless, the Lady Bears ran home five more times in the top of the fourth. Levy singled to left field (3-0) and Lawson smacked a three-run home run to left (6-0). The freshman now has seven home runs on the year.

Karley Hobbs earned her 23rd win of her sophomore campaign to keep her perfect (23-0). Hobbs threw a perfect game through the first 5.0. Hobbs allowed five hits while striking out four throughout the complete game.  

LEADERS

Sullivan went perfect at the plate (3-for-3) including two runs while Levy and Morrison went 3-for-4. Levy added two RBI's and one run. Additionally, Johnson and Kathrine Kozlowski went 2-for-4.

The Lady Bears are set to host No. 4 Georgia Gwinnett for their home finale on Saturday, April 11, at 1:00 p.m.
