No. 17 Lady Bears win ninth straight on senior day

CLEVELAND, Ga. (March 19, 2019) – The No. 17 Truett McConnell University softball team swept Talladega College on Tuesday afternoon to record their eighth and ninth straight wins (3-1, 8-0 (5 innings)). The Lady Bears earned their fourth straight sweep to improve to 21-5, 6-0 AAC on the year.

GAME ONE (3-1)

Two back to back singles put Talladega on the scoreboard first in the top of the fourth but the Lady Bears rallied in the bottom half. Junior Jaden Morrison smacked a triple to deep left-center to send home Peyton Wilson and Alicia Price. Morrison ran home shortly after on a wild pitch (3-1).

Wilson's first double of the day was the lone hit the rest of the game while junior Bethany Hyde held the Tornadoes hitless and scoreless the rest of the way.

LEADERS

Wilson and Price each went 2-for-2 while Morrison went 1-for-2. Hyde earned her eighth win of the season after allowing four hits, walking one and striking out eight.

GAME TWO (8-0)

Sara Sullivan ran home on a wild pitch in the bottom of the first to immediately put the Lady Bears out front (1-0). Sophomore Karley Hobbs held the Tornadoes hitless all the way into the fifth. However, Talladega swung for a single up the middle but it proved not enough as TMU came out to dominate in the bottom of the fifth.

Katherine Kozlowski sparked the stellar inning with a triple to deep left field which scored Sullivan and pinch runners Katie Carruth and Kataryna Fuller (4-0). Kozlwoski then ran home on wild throw which put TMU at a five run advantage (5-0). Freshman pinch hitter Lauren Mosely knocked a single to right field which drove freshman pinch runner Misty Goodman across the plate (6-0) and senior Kaitlynn Johnson's single through the hole at second base scored Morrison (7-0). But it was Sullivan's double to deep left-center that scored the eighth run (8-0) that sealed the sweep in five innings.

LEADERS

Wilson went 2-for-3, putting her at 4-for-5 on the day, while freshman Briley Lawson went 1-for-2. Sullivan went 1-for-1 while tallying two runs.

Hobbs remains undefeated (13-0) after allowing just one hit, walking none and striking out one.
