CLEVELAND, Ga. (Feb. 4, 2019) – A Calvin White bucket put the Truett McConnell University men's basketball team out front with one minute to go but Milligan College, who is receiving votes in the latest NAIA national top 25, ultimately defeated the Bears 75-68. The Bears declined to 12-12, 7-11 AAC while the Buffs improved to 18-7, 13-6 AAC on the year.
In addition, senior Christian Davis became TMU's all-time leader in career 3-point field goals made (256). Davis is also the program's all-time steals leader which he became in December, 2018.
COACH'S COMMENTS
"We've had great fan support all year long and tonight was no different," Head Coach Jon Yeh said. "Unfortunately, our energy level to start each half didn't match that of our fans. We got ourselves into a hole each half, and it was tough to dig out. But still, we took the lead and needed just one top to win it.
I thought Myles' foul was a very tough call. He was straight up and didn't initiate the contact. But we needed to execute and make out layup on the other end."
THE LATE SURGE
The first half was a defensive battle as both teams traded back and forth the lead. Milligan maintained the lead the final four minutes to head into halftime with a four-point advantage. The Buffs came out hot starting off the second half on an 11-3 run to lead by 12 (28-40). Milligan went on to lead steadily until TMU went on a 9-3 run to take the lead for the first time in the second half with 1:02 remaining (68-67).
Nonetheless, the Buffs capitalized shooting 8-for-8Â from the free throw line in the final 41 seconds of the game to secure their second win over the Bears this season (75-68).
LEADERS
White accounted for 17 points, Davis followed with 16 and senior Filipe Goncalves added 15. Goncalves and junior Kai Lambert had two steals apiece. Freshman Enocka Franky scored eight and sophomore Myles Monroe scored seven.
