Lady Bears suffer defeat at No. 13 Bryan

DAYTON, Tenn. (Feb. 14, 2019) – The top team in the Appalachian Athletic Conference, No. 13 Bryan College, took down the Truett McConnell University women's basketball team for the second time this season on Thursday night. The Lady Bears declined to 5-23, 4-21 AAC while the Lions won their 25th straight game to improve to 27-1, 25-0 AAC on the year.

Last time they met, the Lions defeated the Lady Bears 71-56 inside the Benjamin F. Brady Arena.

COACH'S COMMENTS

"We were shorthanded tonight, definitely not an excuse," Head Coach Tiek Fields said. "Bryan is a top of the conference team and they showed that in the first half. In the second half we bounced back and showed what we're capable of. Still fighting to be consistent in all of our efforts."

PLAY-BY-PLAY

Bryan immediately claimed all momentum in the first 20 minutes of regulation outscoring the Lady Bears by 38 (20-58). However, TMU rallied in the second half to outscore the (AAC) undefeated the Lions by one in the third and fourth quarters. A freshman Nicole Bates 3-pointer cut the deficit to 33 points with three minutes to go in the third but Bryan stayed out front by no less than 37 the rest of the way.

LEADERS

Freshman Re'Tavia Floyd led with 19 points, six rebounds and three steals. Fellow freshman Camilla Howell followed with 16. Bates added eight points and two blocks while Kinley Mitchell and Sydney Rumble scored four apiece. Rumble and Natalie Nixon were credited two assists apiece. Rumble also led with seven rebounds.

UP NEXT

The Lady Bears will host Reinhardt University on Saturday, Feb. 16, at 6:00 p.m., for their final game of the 2018-2019 season inside the Benjamin F. Brady Arena.
