Men’s basketball picks up second nonconference win

CLEVELAND, Ga. (Nov. 9, 2019) – The Truett McConnell University men's basketball team won their third straight game inside the Benjamin F. Brady Arena in front of a large homecoming crowd on Saturday evening against Pensacola Christian College (87-71), which is their second nonconference win this season. The Bears improved to 3-0, 1-0 AAC on the year.

PLAY-BY-PLAY

Although the lead was traded back and forth amongst both teams for the first 15 minutes of regulation, the Bears took off in the final five minutes before halftime. Darius Thrower drained a 3-pointer to put TMU out front (27-26), but it was only the beginning of a 16-2 scoring run by the Bears to put them ahead by 14 points at the half (42-28).

The closest the Eagles got to coming in from behind TMU was by eight points after a 3-pointer with 6:06 to go in the game (65-57) but Xavier Latore responded with a 3-pointer of his own, which eventually led to a handful more made baskets by the Bears to lead by as many as 22 points (79-57) with 3:40 remaining.2

The Bears compiled a total of 44 points in the paint, in comparison to the Wolves' 10. TMU's bench also outscored PCC by 18 (36-18). The Wolves drained a total of 16 3-pointers on the night.

LEADERS

Latore led the Bears with his career high of 16 points, while adding two assists. Enocka Franky recorded his second double-double of his sophomore campaign with 12 points, 16 rebounds, five steals and four blocks, which included a made 3-pointer by the 6'7 forward. JaDon Davis had 13 points, Thrower had 11 and Cristian Colon added nine. Brent Kelly was credited a total of 10 assists throughout 19 minutes of play.
