WALESKA, Ga. (Nov. 13, 2019) – The Truett McConnell men's basketball team traveled to Reinhardt University to pick up their second Appalachian Athletic Conference win of the season (69-54), which was also their fourth straight win to improve the Bears to 4-0, 2-0 AAC on the year.
THE DOMINATING SECOND HALF
The Bears started out slow in the first half, which allowed Reinhardt to gain an 8-point lead heading into halftime (20-28). However, it was only up from there for TMU. After the Eagles scored the first bucket of the second half, it didn't take very long for TMU to get back in it.
Marlon Allen sparked a 8-0 scoring run for the Bears to get within two (28-30). But
Darius Thrower's 3-pointer allowed TMU to tie it back up 30-30. Furthermore, Ange Bandji drained a 3-pointer of his own to give the Bears their first lead since nine minutes into the first half (36-35).
With 3:03 remaining in regulation,
Enocka Franky put the Bears ahead by 10 with a made free throw (61-51), and the Bears led by no less than double-digits the rest of the way. The largest lead the Bears held was 16 points (68-53) with 34 seconds to go.
The Bears dominated in the paint outscoring the Eagles 28-24, while also outrebounding by 24 (44-20), which allowed the Bears to score 12 points on second chances in comparison to Reinhardt's zero.
LEADERS
Allen led the way with his season high double-double of 16 points and 14 rebounds, which included going 2-for-4 from behind the 3-point arc. Franky followed with 15 points and seven rebounds, and Thrower scored 14 himself, which included four 3-pointers.
