CLEVELAND, Ga. (Nov. 7, 2019) – The Truett McConnell University women's basketball team put up 90 points on the scoreboard, for the first time since 2016, to win by double-digits (90-80) against St. Andrews University in their Appalachian Athletic Conference season opener on Thursday night inside the Benjamin F. Brady Arena. The Knights, in fact, were picked at No. 8 in the AAC women's basketball preseason poll, while TMU was picked No. 13. This win puts the Lady Bears at 2-0, 1-0 AAC on the year.
PLAY-BY-PLAY
The visiting Knights outscored the Lady Bears throughout the first 20 minutes of regulation (33-40), however, TMU came out ready to battle in the second half. It only took three minutes into the second half for the Lady Bears to tie up at 40-40 after a Camilla Howell 3-pointer, and two buckets in the paint by Sierra Kendall and Sydney Rumble. The Lady Bears went on to outscore the Knights by 10 the rest of the third quarter, which ultimately proved to be the difference.
SAU got back out front by two (72-74) with 2:25 to go in regulation, however, Aisya Davis drained a 3-pointer at 1:54 to spark a 10-0 scoring run by the Lady Bears to put TMU ahead by eight (84-76) with 46 seconds remaining. Furthermore, the Lady Bears closed the game going 6-for-8 from behind the free throw line.
LEADERS
Quan Holton led the way with her career night double-double of 21 points and 12 rebounds. Re'Tavia Floyd led all scorers with 24 points and was credited four assists. Howell and Davis added eight points apiece, while Floyd, Holton and Howell all had two steals apiece. Kendall added seven points and nine rebounds.
