Women’s soccer wins by seven again, maintains perfect AAC sheet

BLUEFIELD, Va. (Oct. 6, 2019) – The Truett McConnell University women's soccer team has continued their undefeated Appalachian Athletic Conference sheet with another dominating win (7-0) on the road at Bluefield College on Sunday afternoon. This is the Lady Bears' second straight 7-0 win and it improves TMU's overall season record to 10-1, 7-0 AAC. This is also TMU's fifth AAC shutout, sixth overall of the season.

The Lady Bears, who have now been receiving votes in the NAIA national top 25 poll for 14 polls in a row, dominated possession against the Rams outshooting the home team 10-1 in the first half and 14-2 in the second. TMU also earned five corner kicks, while the Rams earned zero.

Junior Jessica Lanier got the Lady Bears up on the scoreboard first in the eighth minute (1-0). Six minutes after Madison Wright was credited Lanier's assist, Wright netted her second goal of her freshman campaign (2-0). Lanier also found the back of the net in the 20th minute after a clutch pass from freshman Haley Davis (3-0). All three of the Lady Bears' first goals were caused by impressive team buildups. Davis, in fact, went on to score her first collegiate goal in the 23rd minute (4-0). Sydney League was credited the assist.

With two minutes to go before the half, Kristin Beasley struck from about 20+ yards out to give the Lady Bears a five-goal cushion (5-0). TMU's sixth goal happened when Lydia Williams found the feet of League. League went 1v1 with the Bluefield keeper and was capable of dribbling around her to finish her seventh goal of her sophomore season (6-0). Williams rounded out TMU's goals with a clean header on a Tori Wilson corner kick.

On the national level, League currently ranks 20th in NAIA DI in total game winning goals (3) and ranks 21st in game winning goals per game (0.33). The team, however, ranks 25th in shutouts per game (0.5) and are still only allowing their opponents an average of 0.5 shots on goal per game.

Up next, the Lady Bears will down the road at Brenau University on Wednesday, Oct. 9, at 7:00 p.m.
