Women’s soccer blanks Brenau, wins eighth straight

GAINESVILLE, Ga. (Oct. 9, 2019) – The Truett McConnell University women's soccer team traveled up the road to Brenau University and recorded their sixth Appalachian Athletic Conference shutout, seventh total, and eighth straight AAC win to remain on top in the AAC rankings with a 11-1, 8-0 AAC record. The Lady Bears blanked the Golden Tigers 3-0 on Wednesday night under the lights.

TMU's first goal of the game came in the ninth minute when sophomore Sydney League, also this week's AAC offensive player of the week, crossed the ball into the box for fellow sophomore Mackenzie Taylor to head in her second collegiate career goal (1-0). 15 minutes later, a perfectly placed through ball from junior Jennifer McCall found the 2018 AAC freshman of the year, Lydia Williams. Williams was capable of beating Brenau's goalkeeper to the ball to score her fifth goal of the year, which gave TMU a two-goal cushion at the half (2-0).

In addition, the Lady Bears outshot the Golden Tigers 7-2 throughout the first half and in total outshot 12-8, with 10 on target. TMU also earned three corner kicks, while Brenau earned none.

Another stellar pass by McCall allowed freshman Sophia Kay to find the back of the net for TMU's third and final goal in the 79th minute of the game.

Individually, junior Jessica Lanier led the way with four shots, all on goal, and freshman Ashleigh Silverman added two shots of her own. Sophomore Hope Foster was credited three saves on the night.

Up next, the Lady Bears leave for a long road trip this weekend. TMU is set to face Kentucky Christian University at 12:00 p.m., on Saturday, Oct. 12.
