CLEVELAND, Ga. (Oct. 5, 2019) – The Truett McConnell University women's volleyball team defeated Appalachian Athletic Conference foe Columbia College in three straight (25-16, 25-15, 25-15) and then turned around to sweep Toccoa Falls College (25-19, 28-26, 25-22) in their third tri-match of the season inside of the TMU Bear Cave on Saturday afternoon. Both teams were swept by the Lady Bears (11-13, 7-6 AAC) earlier in the season.
COLUMBIA (3-0)
TMU dominated the kills category in comparison to the Koalas. The Lady Bears tallied 15 kills through each set (45) while Columbia earned a total of 25. After the Lady Bears reached point four in the first set, TMU did not let up the lead. In fact, Columbia was unable to get out front at all throughout the entire second set. Even though the Koalas earned the first four points of the third set, a Harris Anne Walker kill sparked a 5-0 run, which gave them the momentum they needed to complete the sweep.
LEADERS, MAXWELL'S CAREER DAY
Most notable, junior Abby Maxwell recorded her 2,000th career assist. In addition, Maxwell earned her 16th double-double with 36 assists and 11 digs. Kills were shared pretty evenly amongst four Lady Bears; freshmen Audrey Henderson and Ranavia Neal led with nine kills, while seniors Madison Curtis and Harris Anne Walker added eight apiece, and sophomore Bethany Ross had seven kills. Hannah Lee led with 13 digs.
TOCCOA FALLS (3-0)
The Lady Bears rallied to punch a 7-0 run, which put them ahead by three but the Screaming Eagles came in from behind it tie it up and trail by as little as one late in the set. A Henderson, Neal and Curtis kill sealed the first win of the night (25-19), however. TMU trailed most of the way in game two but it was neck and neck in the end. The game was forced into extra points but a Neal kill and Emma McGee ace won it for the Lady Bears (28-26).
TMU trailed from the start but the Lady Bears earned six straight points, which put them ahead for good. Although Toccoa came in from behind to get within two, the Lady Bears were still capable of pulling off the sweep (25-22).
LEADERS
Walker and Neal drastically led the offense with 13 kills apiece, while Neal's hitting percentage was at .417. Maxwell led defensively with 15 digs and was credited 35 assists to move her overall career assists number to 2,066. Lee followed with a total of 13 digs and Abby Mumpower had 10. Curtis added six kills and five blocks, three of which were solo, while Maxwell added four block assists.

The Lady Bears are set to host Brenau University on Tuesday, Oct. 8, at 6:30 p.m., before leaving on a road weekend road trip for Milligan and Montreat College.
