TMU’s dominating fourth quarter clinches season opening win

CLEVELAND, Ga. (Oct. 29, 2019) – The Truett McConnell University women's basketball team hosted Toccoa Falls College for their 2019-20 season opener inside the Benjamin F. Brady Arena on Tuesday night. The Lady Bears' dominating fourth quarter clinched their first win of the season against the Screaming Eagles in a nonconference battle (71-59).

PLAY-BY-PLAY

TMU outscored Toccoa throughout each quarter except the second. In fact, sophomore Quan Holton drained a 3-pointer to claim the first bucket of the night. Freshman Jordyn Wilder made her debut as a Lady Bear making two free throws to close out the first quarter in order to secure TMU's  lead (14-11). However, the Screaming Eagles went on to lead most of the way after 22-22 throughout the second quarter to put themselves at a four-point advantage at halftime (32-28).

Two Sierra Kendall made free throws with 3:58 in the third put the Lady Bears in winning position for good. Although the Screaming Eagles came within one point at the end of the third quarter and tied it back up on free throws of their own in the fourth, TMU picked up the pace throughout the final 10 minutes of regulation. A Re'Tavia Floyd bucket sparked a 13-0 scoring run, which ultimately proved to the difference. The Lady Bears led by no less than double-digits the rest of the way outscoring the Screaming Eagles 22-11 throughout the final quarter of the night.
