CLEVELAND, Ga. (Oct. 2, 2019) – Junior
Javier Rodriguez capitalized on a penalty kick to score the Truett McConnell University men's soccer team's lone goal but it proved not enough as the Bears fell to Reinhardt University 3-1 in an Appalachian Athletic Conference showdown. The Bears are now 2-6-2, 1-2-2 AAC on the year.
Both teams accounted for eight shots throughout the first half but it was the Eagles who netted the first goal of the game in the first 45 seconds (0-1). Reinhardt netted their second goal of the game in the 57th minute (0-2) but a handball led to a penalty kick, which allowed Rodriguez to get the Bears within one goal of the Eagles (1-2). However, Reinhardt was capable of scoring once again in the 84th minute (1-3).
The Bears earned two more corner kicks than the Eagles (4-2) in the second half but was outshot by the Eagles (11-7).
Individually,
Trevor Fick led the way with five shots, three on goal while Rodriguez took three shots, two on goal, and
Jacopo Borgalli added two. Senior
Evan Gaffney recorded eight more clutch saves on the day.
Up next, the Bears will be on the road for Bluefield College on Sunday, Oct. 2. Kickoff is set for 2:00 p.m.
