BARBOURVILLE, Ky. (Oct. 19, 2019) – For the first time since the 2017 season, the Truett McConnell University women's soccer team lost in an Appalachian Athletic Conference regular season game (2-1) in the first overtime period at Union College on Saturday night under the lights. TMU had won 24 consecutive AAC regular season games before the Bulldogs snapped the record-breaking streak. The Lady Bears, who are still receiving votes in the latest NAIA national top 25, are now 13-2, 10-1 AAC on the year.
Union was capable of scoring their first goal in the 24th minute (0-1), and for only the second time this season the Lady Bears trailed at the half. Furthermore, the Lady Bears had not trailed at halftime against any AAC opponent this season before today and Union's first goal was only the third AAC goal conceded by TMU. After outshooting the Bulldogs 8-1 in the first 26 minutes of the second half, senior Jasmin Lanuza scored the equalizer on a penalty kick (1-1).
Neither team was capable of scoring throughout the rest of regulation but TMU dominated possession outshooting Union 11-1. Nonetheless, the Bulldogs scored the golden goal on a free kick that flew over the head of TMU's keeper (1-2). As a whole, the Lady Bears outshot the Bulldogs 18 (9 on goal)-5 (3 on goal).
Lanuza led the offense with four shots, two on goal, while juniors Tori Wilson and Jessica Lanier added three shots apiece. Freshman Kristin Beasley also had three shots and junior Jennifer McCall added two, both on target.
Up next, TMU is back on the road for another AAC matchup at Columbia College on Tuesday, Oct. 22. Kickoff is set for 4:00 p.m.
