Women’s soccer dominates Columbia for 11th AAC win

COLUMBIA, S.C. (Oct. 23, 2019) – After dropping their first Appalachian Athletic Conference regular season game since the 2017 season on Saturday, the Truett McConnell University women's soccer team bounced back with a dominating road win at Columbia College 4-1. The Lady Bears (14-2, 11-1 AAC), in fact, are still receiving votes in the latest NAIA national top 25 poll, which was released Wednesday by the national office.

TMU dominated the 90 minutes of regulation outshooting the Fighting Koalas 9-0 in the first half and 11-4 in the second. Freshman Madison Wright was capable of scoring the Lady Bears' first goal of the game in the 19th minute on a cross across the goal from fellow freshman Kristin Beasley (1-0). Columbia was capable of scoring a goal of their own 12 minutes into the second half (1-1) but it was only up from there for TMU.

Sophomore Sydney League scored her first goal of the night after bypassing three Columbia defenders to finish right outside of the 18 to put the Lady Bears back out front for good (2-1). Three minutes later, League crossed the ball to the feet of junior Jennifer McCall for her to finish their third goal in the back right corner of the net (3-1). League, in fact, scored again in the 75th minute after beating two more Columbia defenders to strike once more. The ball deflected off the inside left post to bounce into the back right corner, giving TMU a three-goal cushion with 15 minutes remaining (4-1).

Most notable, League now leads the team in both goals (9) and assists (8). Furthermore, League's eight assists ranks in the top 20 nationally. League and junior Tori Wilson led the way with four shots apiece; all four of League's were on target. Junior Jessica Lanier followed with three shots while McCall and sophomore Lydia Williams added two apiece. Victoria Moore recorded one save on the night.

Up next, the Lady Bears are set to host Columbia International University on Saturday, Oct. 26, at 1:00 p.m., for their regular season finale.
