WALESKA, Ga. (Jan. 8, 2019) – The Truett McConnell University women's basketball team traveled to Reinhardt University on Tuesday evening to take a step in the right direction. TMU (2-13, 1-11 AAC) worked to lead the Eagles (9-6, 8-4 AAC) at the half (25-20) but ultimately fell in the final 20 minutes of regulation, 56-46.
COACH'S COMMENTS
"We came out ready to fight and took it to them defensively," Head Coach Tiek Fields said. "But that two to three-minute stretch in the third quarter put us in a hole that we couldn't get out of. We will continue to make improvements as we go."
FIRST HALF VICTORY | SECOND HALF LOSS
Freshman Re'Tavia Floyd, the team's leading scorer (162), started off on fire scoring 17 in the first half. TMU was up on the scoreboard first and Reinhardt was only capable of tying it up in the first quarter but the Lady Bears never let up the lead the entire first half. In fact, TMU led by as many as eight points.
Nonetheless, the Eagles came out of the half with a response. The Lady Bears kept the lead until the final three minutes of the third quarter when Reinhardt went on a 12-0 run to lead by 13 heading into the final quarter and TMU was unable to recover.
LEADERS
Floyd ended up with 22 points, seven rebounds and three assists while sophomore Sierra Kendall recorded her second straight and sixth total double-double of 15 points and 10 rebounds. Kendall added four blocks. Freshman Camilla Howell added eight points and three assists.
