CLEVELAND, Ga. (Jan. 10, 2019) – The Truett McConnell University women's basketball team battled the top team in the Appalachian Athletic Conference, No. 15 Bryan College, until the end but ultimately suffered in regulation 71-56. The Lady Bears fell to 2-14, 1-12 AAC while the Lions remained undefeated in the AAC (14-1, 12-0 AAC).
PLAY-BY-PLAY
The Lions outscored the Lady Bears in the first quarter 16-10 but TMU surprised the unbeaten squad in the second. In fact, the Lady Bears came within three points of Bryan to only be outscored by one right before the half. Both teams went on to drain four 3-pointers apiece in the third quarter and the fourth saw a very competitive TMU team despite the 13-point deficit (56-43).
The Lady Bears worked to get within eight points of the Lions and were ultimately only outscored by two in the final 10 minutes of regulation but it proved not enough as Bryan secured their clean sheet.
Overall, TMU's defense held the Lions to just seven 3-pointers. Bryan is ranked number six in the country in 3-pointers made per game (10.462).
LEADERS
Freshman Re'Tavia Floyd led all scorers on the night with 22 points, going 5-of-7 from behind the 3-point arc. Fellow freshman Madison Davis followed with a career high of 11 points shooting 3-of-5 from behind the 3-point arc. Freshman Nicole Bates added seven points, eight rebounds while sophomore Sierra Kendall added eight points, four rebounds. Freshman Sydney Rumble was credited three assists and freshman Nicole Bates added seven points.
