COLUMBIA, S.C. (Jan. 12, 2019) – The Truett McConnell University women's basketball team traveled to Columbia International University on Saturday afternoon to earn their second Appalachian Athletic Conference win of the season. The Lady Bears (3-14, 2-12 AAC) defeated the Rams (0-14, 0-13 AAC) for the second time this season.
Last time they met, TMU won by 16 at home (66-50).
TWO EVEN HALVES | LADY BEARS PREVAIL
The first quarter saw both teams put up 12 points but TMU was capable of outscoring by three points to secure a lead going into the half. The Lady Bears led by as many as 14 in the third quarter and similar to the first 10 minutes both teams went even (12-12). Though CIU managed to get within three points in the final 30 seconds of the third quarter, the Lady Bears went on to secure their victory in the closing 10 minutes of regulation.
The Rams managed to get back out front by one point but it only lasted two minutes. TMU went on a 15-3 run in the last seven minutes to fasten their second victory over the Rams (55-43) by just four points shy of the first margin.
COACH'S COMMENTS
"We stayed consistent in our effort today," Head Coach Tiek Fields said. "They went on a big run to come back. We were able to hold them off and pull out the win."
LEADERS
Freshman Natalie Nixon led the way with a career high of 11 points. Fellow freshman Quan Holton followed with 10 points and six rebounds while sophomore Sierra Kendall added six points and 10 rebounds. Freshmen Syndey Rumble had nine points, Re'Tavia Floyd had eight points and Camilla Howell added seven points.

The Lady Bears will return home to the Benjamin F. Brady Arena on Wednesday, Jan. 15, to host Union College at 5:30 p.m. TMU will also host Brenau University on Saturday, Jan. 19, at 2:00 p.m.
