CLEVELAND, Ga. (Jan. 5, 2019) – The Truett McConnell University men's basketball team made the most free throws in a single game in TMU history in an Appalachian Athletic Conference victory against Allen University on Saturday night, 87-81. The Bears won their third straight win improving to 9-6, 4-5 AAC on the year while the Yellow Jackets fell to 5-9, 3-6 AAC on the year.
PLAY-BY-PLAY
The Bears led by as many as seven points in the first half while the Yellow Jackets led by as little as three. In fact, Allen only had a lead for a total of 28 seconds. Similar to the first half, the second half saw a tightly contested 20 minutes of regulation and Allen only held a lead for no more than two minutes. TMU led by as many as 10 points but it was at the free throw line where the Bears dominated.
Sophomore Calvin White set the individual free throws made in a game record (14) and the record for most free throws made in a game without a miss after going 14-of-14. As a whole, the Bears were sent to the charity stripe 45 times and shot 77.8% for the night (35-of-45).
LEADERS
White's career high of 25 points and nine rebounds led all scorers. Senior Christian Davis followed with 15 points, freshman Antonio Bonilla added a career high of 13 points and senior Filipe Goncalves added 10 points. Freshman Darius Tisby earned nine rebounds, a career high for him. Sophomore Kai Lambert led with three steals and three assists.
