Eagles snap TMU’s win streak on the road

WALESKA, Ga. (Jan. 8, 2019) – The Truett McConnell University men's basketball team traveled to Reinhardt University looking to win their third straight Appalachian Athletic Conference game but the Eagles came out on top, 93-86. The Bears fell to 9-7, 4-6 AAC on the year while the Eagles improved to 8-8, 6-5 AAC.

COACH'S COMMENTS

"We shot the ball really well in the first half, but the game came down to lack of defensive execution, primarily in the first half, and mental toughness in the second half," Head Coach Jon Yeh said. "We can't brick free throws like we did and expect to win. And we must be tougher finishing at the rim and grabbing fifty/fifty rebounds."

STRONG START | LATE REINHARDT RESPONSE

The Bears trailed Reinhardt closely in the first eight minutes of the game but once TMU took the lead with 12:12 to go in the first half it was only up from there. The Bears went on an 11-0 run in a matter of two minutes and led by as many as 11 points.

TMU entered into the second half with a four-point lead (49-45) but it didn't take long for the Eagles to get back out front for good. Within three minutes Reinhardt stole the lead and did not allow the Bears to recover leading by as many as 10. TMU came within two points a couple of times in the final 20 minutes of regulation but it proved not enough.

LEADERS

After recording his 1,000th career point, senior Christian Davis led the Bears with 25 points. Davis has scored in double digits for the sixth straight game and is averaging 15.5 points a game.

Sophomore Darius Thrower followed Davis with a season high of 16 points. Fellow sophomore Calvin White added 14 points, seven rebounds while Kai Lambert added 11 points, seven rebounds and six assists. Senior Jacob Booke tallied eight rebounds.
