CLEVELAND, Ga. (Jan. 2, 2019) – The Truett McConnell University men's basketball broke Tennessee Wesleyan University's three game win straight nabbing their first Appalachian Athletic Conference game of 2019 (68-60) on Wednesday night inside the Benjamin F. Brady Arena. The Bears improved to 8-6, 3-5 AAC on the season while the Bulldogs fell to 8-4, 4-3 AAC.
POOR SHOOTING | BEARS STILL PREVAIL
The Bears earned the first six points of the game and maintained a lead throughout the rest of the first half but neither team could finish. TMU shot 33.33% from the field and 7.69% from behind the 3-point arc while the Bulldogs shot 20.69% from the field and went 0-for-8 behind the 3-point arc. However, the Bears improved in the final 20 minutes of regulation shooting 51.43% from the field and 38.46% from 3-point territory.
The Bears led by as many as 21 points in the second half (65-44) but the Bulldogs fought back going on a 16-3 run in the last 2:40 of the game but TMU remained on top. In fact, the Bulldogs never led TMU for a moment of the game.
TMU dominated Tennessee Wesleyan on the boards (52-38) and earned 14 steals in comparison to the Bulldogs' nine. The Bears also shared the ball well tallying a total of 19 assists.
LEADERS
Senior Christian Davis led all scorers with 19 points while also tallying a total of seven assists and six steals. Davis also earned six rebounds. Sophomore Calvin White followed with 12 points and six rebounds. Fellow sophomore Myles Monroe added eight points and six rebounds. Freshman Antonio Bonilla scored nine, going 2-for-3 behind the 3-point line.
