BLUEFIELD, Va. (Jan. 26, 2019) – Four members of the Truett McConnell University men's basketball team scored double figures but the Bears came up short against Appalachian Athletic Conference foe Bluefield College on Saturday evening (95-88). The Bears fell to 11-11, 6-10 AAC on the season while the Rams improved to 14-8, 8-7 AAC
Last time they met, the Bears defeated the Rams inside the Benjamin F. Brady Arena 84-80.
PLAY-BY-PLAY
An 11-0 run by the Rams in the middle of the first half forced the Bears to battle back from an early 12-point deficit. Nonetheless, TMU battled back to trail by as little as one point with 3:05 to go before halftime but had to settle for a four-point deficit (42-46).
Bluefield came out in second half pushing to lead by nine in the first three minutes but the Bears eventually came in from behind. A Kai Lambert 3-pointer tied it up at 57 apiece but a Christian Davis 3-pointer put TMU back out front (60-59) for the first time since the opening seconds of the game.
The Rams drained four 3-pointers, in comparison to TMU's two, alongside a handful of free throws in the final five minutes of regulation which ultimately secured Bluefield's first win over the Bears this season.
TMU made a total of 14 3-pointers while the Rams made 13.
LEADERS
Sophomore Calvin White's double-double of 22 points and 10 rebounds led the way. Davis and Lambert added 14 apiece while junior Darius Thrower followed with 12 points. Lambert added eight rebounds and senior Filipe Goncalves was credited seven assists.
