CLEVELAND, Ga. (Jan. 2, 2019) – Freshman Re'Tavia Floyd led the Truett McConnell University women's basketball team with 20 points but the Lady Bears fell to Appalachian Athletic Conference foe Tennessee Wesleyan University on Wednesday night inside the Benjamin F. Brady Arena, 75-61. TMU fell to 2-11, 1-9 AAC on the year while the Bulldogs won their third straight game to improve to 7-4, 5-4 AAC on the year.
STRONG START | BULLDOGS TAKE OFF
The Lady Bears started out hot earning the first four points of the game and went on to lead the Bulldogs all the way until the final minute of the first quarter. The second quarter saw TN Wesleyan leading by as many as 10 but the Lady Bears came within four multiple times. Trailing by seven at the half (26-33), the Bulldogs came back out in the final 20 minutes of regulation ready to run away with the win but TMU didn't sit back.
Though the Bulldogs led by as many as 15 in the third quarter, the Lady Bears came out in the fourth working to cut the deficit to just nine. TMU scored 24 points in the final 10 minutes but it proved not enough as the Bulldogs secured their fifth conference win of the season (75-61).
The Lady Bears outscored Tennessee Wesleyan by 10 points in the paint (32-22) and forced 15 turnovers in comparison to TMU's 13.
LEADERS
Following Floyd was senior Sarah Hartshorn with 10 points after draining two key 3-pointers in the fourth quarter. Sophomore Sierra Kendall scored nine and earned eight rebounds while freshmen Quan Holton scored eight and Natalie Nixon rebounded eight. Kendall and Nixon both tallied two blocks.
Kendall currently ranks fourth in NAIA DII in offensive rebounds per game (5.083).

The Lady Bears will be back at it inside the Benjamin F. Brady Arena on Saturday, Jan. 5, at 2:00 p.m., to face Allen University.
