Lady Bears blank Bryan to continue AAC streak

CLEVELAND, Ga. (Sept. 29, 2018) – The Truett McConnell University women's soccer team, who is receiving votes in the latest NAIA national top 25, remain undefeated in the Appalachian Athletic Conference after their seventh shutout of the season over Bryan College on Saturday afternoon (4-0).

TMU improved to 8-1, 6-0 AAC on the year while Bryan dropped to 4-7, 3-3 AAC.

TMU'S GOALS

The Lady Bears outshot the Lions in the first 45 minutes of play 9-3. TMU's first goal of the night happened 28 minutes into the game. Jennifer McCall netted her sixth goal of her sophomore season off the feet of Jessica Lanier. Five minutes later, the freshmen duo found a way to find the back of the net just minutes off the bench. Sydney Ziglar led Lydia Williams to her team-leading eighth goal of the season (2-0).

Behind 12 shots in comparison to Bryan's five in the second half, senior Megan McCall drilled the third goal of the night past the keeper from the left side of the box with 24 minutes remaining. In the 73rd minute, Lanier cut inside at the top of the 18 with a ball from the feet of Ziglar to deliever TMU's fourth and final goal of the evening further securing the Lady Bears' undefeated AAC streak (4-0). The Lady Bears are currently ranked number two in the country in shutouts per game (.750).

LEADERS

Lanier led taking seven shots while J. McCall took five and M. McCall took three. Susanna Peppers and Williams added two shots apiece. Ziglar was credited two assists on the night. Jessica Hale earned her seventh shutout of the season with four saves.

UP NEXT

The Lady Bears will return to the TMU Soccer Complex on Tuesday, Oct. 2, for another AAC game against Union College at 1:00 p.m., before hitting the road on Sunday, Oct. 7, for Columbia College.
