CLEVELAND, Ga. (Oct. 2, 2018) – The Truett McConnell University women's soccer team, who is still receiving votes in the latest NAIA national top 25, defeated the Union College Bulldogs 3-0 for their eighth straight win, seventh Appalachian Athletic Conference win and eighth shutout of the season. The Lady Bears improved to 9-1, 7-0 AAC on the year while the Bulldogs dropped to 2-7, 1-4 AAC.
GOALS | BY THE NUMBERS
TMU dominated the first 45 minutes of play outshooting the Bulldogs 13-2. Sophomore Rachel Barnett, the most recent AAC women's soccer defensive player of the week, netted the first goal of the day eight minutes into the game. Fellow sophomore Tori Wilson took the corner kick which led to Marissa Harkins heading the ball which found Barnett's foot (1-0). Six minutes later, senior Carson Bayte drilled the second goal of the day off the feet of Wilson directly over the head of Union's keeper (2-0).
The Lady Bears came out into the second half with every bit of momentum outshooting the Bulldogs again (9-4). Within seven minutes two more seniors rose to the occasion. Megan McCall crossed the ball through traffic in the box which enabled Lauren Huston to find the back of the net for her first goal of the season (3-0). Freshman Mackenzie Taylor had the closest shot on goal hitting the crossbar.
Overall, the Lady Bears earned eight corner kicks in comparison to Union's one.
LEADERS
Jessica Lanier led with seven shots, three on goal. Huston, M. McCall, Jennifer McCall and Taylor added two shots apiece. Jessica Hale earned her eighth shutout of the season with one save.

TMU is back on the road Sunday, Oct. 7, for another AAC showdown at College Columbia with game time set for 4:00 p.m. The Lady Bears will return home on Saturday, Oct. 13, to face Milligan College at 1:00 p.m.
