Volleyball takes Bluefield for second straight sweep

BLUEFIELD, Va. (Sept. 11, 2018) – The Truett McConnell University women's volleyball team headed to Bluefield College for an Appalachian Athletic Conference showdown on Tuesday evening. The Lady Bears swept the Rams for their second sweep in a row and first AAC victory of the season (27-25, 25-23, 25-21).

PLAY BY PLAY

TMU immediately came out in the first set ready to attack compiling a total of 19 kills in comparison to Bluefield's 13. Despite trailing mid-set after a 5-0 run by the Rams, the Lady Bears used a 4-0 and 5-0 run to get back out front. At 25 apiece, Shayla Smith put the ball away at the middle of the net prior to Anna Mumpower's ace to take the first set (27-25).

Similar to game one, TMU and Bluefield were back to back and it came down to 23-23. Nonetheless, the Lady Bears rose to the occasion again as Madison Curtis set Bethany Ross up for the kill and the Bears' defense forced a Bluefield attack error (25-23).

Though game three saw the Lady Bears trailing (13-15), TMU used a 6-0 run to gain every bit of momentum. Another Ross kill from the hands of Abby Maxwell, the latest AAC Setter of the Week, sealed the deal for TMU's third sweep of the season (25-21).

TMU outkilled the Rams in set two 11-7 and in set three 14-7.
