Women’s soccer falls late at Middle Georgia

COCHRAN, Ga. (Aug. 28, 2018) – The Truett McConnell women's soccer team traveled to Middle Georgia State University for their first nonconference game on the road of the season on Tuesday afternoon. The Lady Bears found the back of the net first but the Knights responded with two goals of their own to secure the win 2-1.

PLAY BY PLAY

Despite a scoreless first half, TMU kept the ball moving. The Lady Bears outshot Middle Georgia 7-1. Megan McCall was amongst the group that took a chance at the goal firing two on goal but the Knights' goalkeeper showed grit. Nonetheless, just three minutes into the second half sophomore Tori Wilson sent the ball into the box on a corner kick and fellow sophomore Marissa Harkins sent the ball past the goalie for the first goal of the game to put the Lady Bears ahead 1-0.

In response, Middle Georgia took a corner kick themselves which enabled them to match TMU's lone goal. One minute later, senior Carson Bayte hit the cross bar in attempt to get back out ahead but it didn't reach the net. Middle Georgia scored for the winning goal with 30 minutes left in the game and there was not another shot taken by either team the rest of the way.

TMU outshot the Knights 5-4 in the second half.

LEADERS

M. McCall and Jessica Lanier led with three shots apiece. Susanna Peppers followed with two shots while Bayte, sophomore Jennifer McCall and freshman Lydia Williams each tallied one shot. Jessica Hale earned two saves.
