CLEVELAND, Ga. (Aug. 25, 2018) – Sophomore
Jennifer McCall and junior
Susanna Peppers led the Truett McConnell University women's soccer team to their first victory of the 2018 season against Ohio Christian University (7-0) on Saturday at the TMU Soccer Complex. McCall connected for three goals while Peppers connected for two.
FIRST HALF
The Lady Bears immediately came out ready to attack outshooting the Trailblazers 15-3. Peppers put TMU up on the scoreboard first off a senior
Lauren Huston assist 17 minutes into the game. Not even a minute later fellow junior
Jasmin Lanuza found the back of the net for her first goal of the year (2-0). McCall fed off of the TMU momentum two minutes later to connect for her first goal of the day after Lanuza found her in the box.
SECOND HALF
Similar to the first 45 minutes of play, the Lady Bears dominated on both sides of the field outshooting the Trailblazers 16-5. Peppers and McCall worked to find the back of the net for the fourth time just eight minutes in the second half (4-0). Sophomore
Tori Wilson scored the fifth goal off of the foot of Huston just minutes later at the top of the box (5-0).
McCall's final two goals in the last 30 minutes of the game proved to put the game out of reach. Freshman
Lydia Williams made her debut tallying an assist for McCall's last goal of the game (7-0).
COACH'S COMMENTS
"The girls had a really great preseason," Head Coach
David McDowell said. "We played some pretty tough teams and I think today the girls picked up right where they left off. Today's win was a really great start to the season."
LEADERS
Following McCall and Peppers was Wilson and Lanuza with a goal apiece. Senior
Megan McCall connected for five shots, two on goal. Huston was accredited two assists.
Sophomore
Jessica Hale and freshman
Brianna Bullock both earned minutes as keeper. Hale tallied three saves.
UP NEXT
The Lady Bears are on the road for two more nonconference matchups on Tuesday, Aug. 28, at Middle Georgia State at 5:30 p.m., and then will play at a neutral site to face Life University on Saturday, Sept. 1. Conference play for TMU will begin the following game at the TMU Soccer Complex on Saturday, Sept. 8, against Bluefield College.
